Along the coast of New South Wales there are around a hundred ocean baths like this one at Merewether Beach, in Newcastle. With many of these pools dating back to the convict era with the oldest surviving build along the Shortland Esplanade in 1819. Many of these baths were built by local councils and private individuals from the 1800s and thought to the 1930s. The baths on Merewether Beach have been recently renovated in 2014.
